I learnt a powerful lesson in this volume. One that I’ve returned to time and time again, with each drawing session. Drawing things simply is extremely effective. As a matter of fact, leaving adequate space for your drawing to “breathe” makes even the simplest marks powerful.
The first inclination is to immediately attempt to draw everything in sight and get every detail down on paper. I’m finding though, that selecting a simple subject and drawing it, whether I like it or not yields better drawings and makes the end result just as pleasing as the process to achieve it.
It also allows the drawings to be recreated with ease in other sketchbooks and ways and gives you material to work with in future painting sessions.
As always, it’s a pleasure sharing this journey with you. See you on Friday for the next volume. I’d like to hear about your sketching adventures, tell me about your journey in the comments.
